Bad news for fans of totally-not-vaporware 3-wheeled car/motorcycle things that kind of sound like Canadian-American frozen pizzas. Elio Motors has announced that the on-sale date of their still unnamed 3-wheeler has been put back again to September of 2015. At last word, production was supposed to have started in "early 2015" for an on-sale date next March.
Apparently, part of the issue is that they almost lost their lease on the ex-GM plant in Caddo, Louisiana again a few days ago, and that delay apparently was enough to shift the timeline by another 9 months. The good news is that they're now claiming to have outsold Mitsubishi Motors in North America, the bad news is that they haven't actually sold any cars, just reservations on cars.

I have a friend who wants one. Apparently this car is aimed at "people who would normally buy a used car" and that describes him perfectly. My BS detector still goes off so we'll see if it gets launched or not but I still think it'll be a poorly made hunk of scrap.

Do they even have a functional engine prototype yet? Last I heard (a couple months ago) they still were running their mules on decades old Geo drivetrains and the 'new' engine existed solely in computers with one non-running mock-up. I'd be pretty shocked if they can go from computer drawings to rate production in 15 months especially considering that includes fully tooling up a factory from scratch.

I like the idea of it, but their math is very fuzzy.

Add me to the list of people who would buy one if they make it. Something tells me that, with a manual transmission, this thing would be a blast to drive.

"totally-not-vaporware" must be your code for "complete unbelievable vaporware that will never ever be built and everyone dumb enough to have plopped down a deposit will surely lose it" right?

Thanks for the....bad....news. This news makes me :(
I plan to buy one, BUT I will not plop down any money until the car/motorcycle that I am going to buy is sitting right in front of me and I have taken a test drive. I almost, almost now mind you, decided to put down a thousand dollars, then my good sense bitch slapped some better sense back into me. As badly as I would like for them to succeed and I would like to have one, I won't be gambling on it any time soon. Sigh
